Colin has always had designs on being an artist from a very early age studying and making art throughout his life mostly for personal recreation. After taking O’level art he decided that was what he was going to do when he left school. Starting Art classes at college in 1974. However this was short lived as family pressure forced him to enter the world of employment where he began an apprenticeship with Vickers Shipbuilding in 1975. This was also short lived as he moved away from home joining the Royal Air Force in 1975, eventually leaving in 1986.
After a break of about 22 years Colin returned to College to study art at Furness College taking G.N.V.Q intermediate and advanced Art & Design. Followed by a H.N.D. in Art and Design and a City & Guilds Teaching Certificate.
Colin then studied at the University of Central Lancashire, Graduating in 2004 with an Honours Degree in Fine Art.
During this time Colin also completed a Millennium Award through the Millennium Commission gaining a life time fellowship, and was chosen from over 31,000 applicants to be part of the Millennium Commissions tenth anniversary exhibitions in the Tate Modern in London and the Lowry Arts Centre in Salford.
Colin is currently the Artist in Residence for St Matthews’s Community Halls in Barrow, where he has his studio. Colin is also the founder and current chairman of the ChromaZone artists collective.
